These Empire film magazines are the ones which have inspired me the most for what my film magazine cover will look like. I went on the Empire website and looked at the magazine cover archive to see if there were any films to my specific genre, or displaying qualities in which I could use for my film poster.
The above film cover is from 1992, in which Empire magazines layout is very different from now. From looking at this I have decided I will definitely be producing something similar to what the magazine covers look like now instead, as they look more professional, no white gaps over the magazine. I think the white space in which 'Empire' is placed in distracts the viewers eye away from the cover article 'Cape Fear' in which all of the colouring is dark. If I was to design a magazine with this image on the front, I would make that space black or a dark green to fit in with the image.
The above Empire cover was released in 2001. This clearly shows how Empires layout developed from the previous issue (above). There are no white gaps and the font is being placed upon a picture. This is something I would like to do on my magazine cover, as it gives a more up to date look.
Another factor of this magazine cover which I like is the use of red as the main colour. This relates to my film genre, horror. Although, as ours is a supernatural horror I may consider using a blue colour, which is an idea I gained from looking at trailer fonts and their colouring for specifically supernatural films.
This film poster (above) is a more recent cover displaying the main villain of The Dark Knight Rises, The Joker. By having him clearly displayed and face on, it gives the idea that this villain is fearless. This is something we could consider for our poster, showing that our supernatural character will do what they want in the film.
Also, the colouring of the text reflects the colour of The Joker's hair, which is something very noticeable on him. If we were to use the text to reflect our character, we would have to reflect our type of film rather than just the villain/ scary character. For example we would use blue text to display that our film is a supernatural horror (similar to the above magazine cover).
