Below trailer

Length: 2:25
Titles:
The trailer begins with the production company being shown, only quickly. This may give away the budget/ genre of the film as some audiences may be familiar with this. For example, when seeing 'Dreamworks' or 'Pixar' most people can realise the film is going to be an animated family film, rather than something of the horror genre.

This font is very bold against the background meaning it is noticeable, and the use of blue tones connects to the location, the sea, but also gives a ghost-like feeling as this is what the film is centred around.

The 'Coming Soon' screen shown below also has the blue colouring, but has a water coloured background from the scene previous to it, meaning the viewer knows this is the focus of the film.

Techniques/ Ideas for my film:

This trailer uses the technique of fading some scenes to white and then cutting to the next, creating a flashing affect.

There is a point of view shot from out of the ship which is affective and an interesting way of displaying the location of the film. I'm unsure if I would attempt to use a strange point of view shot, as we are thinking of setting it in a house, so showing the point of view would be difficult, but it will be considered.

There is a series of quick, short shots used. This shows all of the elements which add up to the tense feeling of this trailer, as the audience are not sure what's going on. The eye shot (shown below) gives a sense of fear, which would be something affective to use in our films teaser trailer.

By including bright lights this gives a feeling of disorientation to the audience, making them unsure and curious as to what is going on, which is something affective to use in a trailer because then people will be more interested in seeing the film.

Narrative:
  • A voice over is used for most of the trailer, giving away the storyline.
  • As this film has more of an in depth storyline than most horror films (it's set in a ship, gives the audience the question of why), the voice over gives away what is happening.
Dialogue:
  • In this there is a lot of dialogue used, which in some cases can ruin the mystery of a teaser trailer, so in mine I will not be including much, if any.
